Abstract

This protocol describes a scoping review designed to identify, map, and synthesize the available evidence on clinical leadership among academic clinical department chairs. The review will be conducted using the methodological framework developed by Arksey and O’Malley and informed by subsequent scoping review guidance, with reporting based on PRISMA-ScR. The search will cover Ovid MEDLINE, PsycINFO, EMBASE, Scopus, and Web of Science, supplemented by relevant national and international information sources and reference-list screening. Eligible evidence will address clinical leadership competencies, dimensions, practices, contextual factors, facilitators, barriers, and outcomes relevant to academic clinical department chairs and related clinical leadership populations. The expected result is an evidence-informed synthesis that maps the key components and contextual considerations of clinical leadership and provides a conceptual foundation for developing a clinical leadership framework for academic clinical department chairs.
